How to fix wrong information AI gives about a company

Clients come to me with this more and more. The client had a sound business and accurate pages. The search engine was showing the right company details, but an AI assistant was telling buyers something out of date or simply wrong about him. An AI answer cannot be edited directly. It is corrected by finding the source the assistant took the error from, fixing that source, and publishing the right fact clearly enough that it wins next time.

Answers drawn from live search change first. What a model learned in training changes only with a later model. I work through it as a small investigation, one wrong fact at a time.

Step 1: record the error exactly

Ask the same question in a fresh session on each assistant and save the answer with the date. Note the precise wrong statement and any sources the assistant cites. Vague impressions cannot be fixed; a specific wrong sentence can.

Step 2: find where it came from

Check the cited sources first.
Search the wrong phrase in quotes. Old directory listings, former addresses and outdated press are common culprits.
Check your own site: old pages, PDFs and a forgotten "about" paragraph often contradict the current one.
Look for another company or person with a similar name.

Step 3: correct the sources

Fix or delete outdated pages on your own site.
Update every profile and listing you control to the same wording.
Ask the owners of third-party pages to correct theirs.
Where a namesake causes confusion, state clearly on your site who you are and who you are not.

Step 4: publish the correct fact where it can be found

Put the right information in plain text on your about page and home page, and in Organization or Person markup that matches. A short FAQ entry answering the exact question helps, because it gives the assistant a sentence to use.

Step 5: use the feedback tools and recheck

Most assistants have a way to flag a wrong answer. Use it, without expecting an immediate change. Then repeat the same question every week or two and keep the record.

This will not remove accurate information you simply dislike.
It will not change a trained model overnight.
