Can a new business with no reputation show up in AI answers?

By Lopty Pascal · Last reviewed

Yes, for narrow and specific questions first. A new business will not be named for "best agency in Dubai" in its first months, but it can be cited for a precise question it answers better than anyone else. Start narrow, be exact about who you are, and build independent mentions from day one.

Founders come to me at this stage. The client had just launched. The search engine was barely showing his site yet, but he wanted to know whether AI assistants could already mention him. I know the stage from the inside, having launched Prezlo as a new product in a new category.

What works in your favour

  • Search-backed assistants read the live web, so a new, clear page can be used soon after it is indexed.
  • Narrow questions have few good answers. You can be the best source for one.
  • A new business has no old, conflicting information to clean up.

What works against you

  • No reviews, no mentions and no history for an assistant to check.
  • Trained models do not know you exist.
  • For broad comparisons, established names fill the list.

A first-months plan

  • Week one: a site that loads as real HTML, with one sentence stating what you are, for whom and where.
  • Week one: every profile created with the same name and description: LinkedIn, Google Business Profile if you qualify, and the directories for your sector.
  • First month: three to five pages that each answer one specific question from your own knowledge.
  • First month: ask your first clients for reviews as soon as work is delivered.
  • Ongoing: be useful where your buyers ask questions, under your real name.
  • Ongoing: track ten narrow questions weekly and widen them as you appear.

The founder is an asset

Opinion: for a new company, the founder’s identity is often easier to establish than the brand’s. A person has a history, a profile and things they have said. Link the company clearly to the founder and let the founder publish under their own name.

What this will not do

  • It will not put a new business on broad "best of" answers quickly.
  • It cannot manufacture a track record. Do not invent clients or reviews to fill the gap.
  • Early appearances are fragile. Keep building the independent mentions.

Frequently asked questions

How soon can a new website be cited by AI?
Once it is indexed and readable, search-backed assistants can use it. For a narrow question that can be within weeks.
Should a new business bother with GEO before SEO?
They are the same early work: a readable site, clear identity and useful pages. Do it once, properly.
Is it worth paying for directory listings?
Reputable directories relevant to your sector, yes. Bulk listing packages on low-quality sites, no.
